"Writerly" being a relative, and mostly made-up, term. Haven't posted here for a while, so here goes.
I jumped into Eureka_tag late, but am trying to keep up now. I'm still really tickled whenever anyone reviews my stuff, especially since there are some really, really good authors in that community.
My last tag was the hardest to write, even though it was wicked short. I had a really hard time getting any of the characters to talk to me after that ep.
I was playing on the Sherlock Holmes Kink Meme for a while, but seem to have stalled out creatively there, too. (I have a bunch of bunnies, but they're just hopping around aimlessly at the mo.) I post anonymously there, which is half the fun. However, I'm going ahead and claiming these: http://community.livejournal.com/shkinkmeme/4456.html?thread=4160104#t4160104 Yeah, I wrote a handful of mildly smutty limericks for a prompt. My meter falters occasionally, and "Watson" is ridiculously hard to rhyme, and exactly one person liked them enough to say anything, and I still think they're kind of neat. So there. :)
It's crazy what gets reader reaction, though. Of my longer (again, relatively. None of them are chapter fics or anything.) fics, the two most popular are a series of kid fluff pieces (which I'm actually pretty proud of) and a melodramatic angstfic of doom (which I'm possibly a little horrified by).
1. I am apparently the only person in HP fandom who prefers the UK cover art to the US cover art. (I just do.)
2. Since last night's episode of House, I've had this bizarre image of Wilson singing "YMCA" at House floating through my mind all day. Sometimes with Foreman, Cameron and Chase dancing in the background. It has been a very entertaining, if disturbing, experience.
You know how I was saying that I'd never read a good HP/BtVS cross-over and it made me sad? Someone pointed me to a good HP/BtVS cross-over, and now I'm not sad. :)
Seriously, how did I miss The End of the Beginning by Marina Frants? It's set in 1981 and features Giles and Ethan getting caught up in the affairs of the Original Order of the Phoenix and their adversaries. It's a little AU because it was mostly written before OotP was released, but everyone's in-character. Also, Ethan calls Dumbledore "Gandalf the Magenta" and no one turns out to be secretly a wizard/Watcher/squib/ensouled vampire in disguise.
In the non-squeeing over (new to me) fanfic department, could someone please hurry Spring along a little? It's currently 1 degree outside (that's -17 Celsius to my metric friends) and I'm tired of being cold.
Having rewatched The Girl In The Fireplace, I realized that I find the episode itself a little drawn-out and boring (Srsly? I get it. The Doctor is Lonely and all his girlfriends die.), although I loved bits and pieces of it. "Oh, look what the cat dragged in. The Oncoming Storm." is one of my favorite Rose lines ever. Also, I was a big fan of both Arthur and Mickey in this episode. However, I think I like this episode more for how it made fandom's head go 'splodey than for its actual content.
